The outspoken critic, who spent 10 seasons in the NFL and earned multiple Pro Bowl selections, didn’t mince words when discussing Smith’s performance. “Arthur Smith’s offense is too predictable, too vanilla, and too ineffective,” the former receiver said in a recent interview. “He’s not getting the most out of his players, and it’s hurting the team’s chances of winning.”

The criticism comes on the heels of the Steelers’ disappointing 2022 season, which saw the team struggle to find consistency on offense. Smith, who took over as OC in 2020, has been under pressure to deliver a more explosive and dynamic offense.

According to the former receiver, Smith’s biggest issue is his inability to adapt to defenses. “He’s too stuck on his own system and doesn’t make enough adjustments at halftime,” the critic said. “It’s like he’s trying to force his will on the defense instead of adjusting to what they’re giving him.”

The Steelers’ offense has indeed struggled with consistency, ranking in the bottom half of the league in several key categories. While Smith has shown flashes of brilliance, his overall body of work has been underwhelming.

Steelers fans will be watching closely to see how Smith responds to the criticism. Will he make adjustments to his play-calling, or will he stick to his guns? One thing is certain: the pressure is on Smith to deliver a better performance in 2023.

As for the former receiver, he’s not backing down from his comments. “I’m not trying to be negative or critical,” he said. “I just want to see the Steelers succeed, and I think they need to make some changes on offense to make that happen.”
