‘He can’t play’: NFL legend shades Steelers quarterback…

A former NFL running back didn’t hold back when asked about Steelers quarterback Justin Fields.

On Monday’s episode of FS1’s “The Facility,” Pitt product LeSean McCoy, 36, threw shade at Fields.

“Why would you be keeping Fields other than to make him a backup, or give him a clipboard, or give him a package to run the ball here and there,” McCoy said. “He can’t play, can’t throw. He don’t win.

“Explain to me, from a good franchise and a good coach, why the hell would we keep him.” McCoy was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2024. He retired from the team in 2021.NFL analyst says Fields won’t ‘lead Steelers anywhere meaningful’

McCoy isn’t the only one who thinks the Steelers shouldn’t use Fields, 26, as the starting quarterback this year. NFL analyst Warren Sharp also thinks it’s a bad idea.”I think you’re kidding yourself if you think this is the guy who’s going to lead the Steelers anywhere meaningful in 2025,” the Sharp Football Show said in a clip posted to X on Tuesday.

“On first and second downs, Justin Fields held onto the football the longest of any quarterback in the NFL, and he was terrible. He was objectively terrible on early downs,” Sharp said on the show.

Sharp doesn’t think Mike Tomlin will help the Steelers win games or do anything post-season in 2025, “which is his biggest struggle,” if he puts Fields in the starting lineup.

Will the Steelers lock up Fields ahead of free agency?

Time is running out for the Steelers to lock down Fields with the legal tampering period of free agency kicking off on Monday, March 10.While some naysayers don’t think Fields is the right pick to lead the Steelers in 2025, NFL insider Ian Rapoport predicts that Fields will get the job. On an episode of the NFL Insiders Podcast on Tuesday, Rapoport said, “Justin Fields does represent the upside.”

“It does seem like there’s some thought inside the building of rebooting with Justin Fields, giving him the full season, giving him the resources around him and then seeing,” he added. According to Rapoport, insiders are suggesting that Fields is “more likely” to be picked as the starting quarterback of the Steelers in 2025 than Russell Wilson.

Despite the ongoing comparison between the two men, Wilson showed that there are no hard feelings when he posted a birthday shoutout to Fields on Instagram on Wednesday. He included a picture of himself and Fields in Steelers uniforms shaking hands at a game.

Wilson captioned the post, “Happy Bday my brother!
