Steelers Receive Warning To Stay Away From Trading For Superstar Wide Receiver

It’s the current time of the offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers when every potentially available individual who plays a position of need is linked to the organization. The most pressing issues on the roster as the NFL’s new league year gets set to begin are the quarterback, wide receiver, running back and defensive line positions. One can even add cornerback to the list, too. Overall, the hope is to re-sign Justin Fields in the coming days, but regardless of who the signal-caller is, more weapons on the offensive side of the ball will be essential. There is a lot of work left to be done in the Steel City.

The NFL news cycle has been buzzing as free agency quickly approaches, and a bombshell was dropped on Wednesday that was rather unexpected this early in the 2025 offseason. The Seattle Seahawks and star wide receiver DK Metcalf agreed that it might be best for the two sides to part ways, which means a trade is expected to occur involving the two-time Pro Bowler.

Pittsburgh doesn’t have that problem, which may be why the team ends up electing to make a run at Metcalf. He won’t come cheap, especially due to the higher asking price from receivers nowadays, but he might be worth it for a franchise that has had poor offensive seasons for several years in a row.

Trading for Metcalf would certainly raise questions about Pickens’ future, if he wasn’t involved in the trade in the first place. Depending on what the contract would be for Metcalf, it could absolutely be worth it for Khan to get aggressive in making an offer. There will be many organizations interested in Metcalf, potentially leading to a bidding war. This is something that the Steelers don’t typically like to get involved in, but desperate times call for desperate measures,

It’s anyone’s guess as to how quickly a Metcalf deal could transpire, but if it leaks into the free agency period, some wide receiver-needy teams may wait to sign available players until the big domino in Metcalf falls.
