DK Metcalf Confident He and George Pickens Can Coexist with Steelers: “Shouldn’t Be on a Team if Everybody Doesn’t Want the Football”

 

 

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a significant splash in free agency by signing wide receiver DK Metcalf to a lucrative contract. The move raised some eyebrows, as the Steelers already have a talented young receiver in George Pickens. However, Metcalf is confident that he and Pickens can coexist and thrive together in the Steelers’ offense.

Metcalf, who signed a three-year, $54 million contract with the Steelers, spoke to the media on Wednesday and addressed the potential concerns about his fit with Pickens.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for both of us to make plays and help the team win,” Metcalf said. “I’m not worried about it at all. I think we can both be very effective and make a lot of plays.”

 

Metcalf, who has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL over the past few seasons, emphasized that he’s not concerned about sharing targets with Pickens.

“Shouldn’t be on a team if everybody doesn’t want the football,” Metcalf said. “I want the ball, George wants the ball, and that’s what makes us great players. We’re going to make plays and help the team win.”

Pickens, who had a breakout rookie season in 2022, has also expressed his excitement about playing with Metcalf.

 

“I’m hyped to have him on the team,” Pickens said. “He’s a great player, and I think we can learn from each other. We can push each other to be better and make more plays.”

The Steelers’ offense, which has been revamped under new coordinator Jim Harbaugh, is expected to be more explosive with the addition of Metcalf. The team is also expected to be more aggressive in the passing game, which could lead to more opportunities for both Metcalf and Pickens.

“I think we can be very dynamic,” Metcalf said. “We’ve got a lot of talent on this team, and I think we can make a lot of plays. We’re going to be aggressive, and we’re going to take shots down the field.”

 

The Steelers’ coaching staff is also excited about the potential of the Metcalf-Pickens duo.
