“Travis Perry Shakes Off Injury Scare vs. Alabama, Ready to Play”

Perry did suffer an injury but says he won’t miss time.

It would appear Kentucky Wildcats guard Travis Perry is set to play in the early rounds of the NCAA Tournament after sustaining an injury to his shooting hand against Alabama in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.

During an interview with the Lexington Herald-Leader, Perry admitted he heard the rumors that he had suffered an injury that could sideline him for this week’s games in Milwaukee, but thankfully, that’s not the case.

Here’s an excerpt of the report.

“Yeah, I’ve seen some of those,” Perry laughed when the rumors of a hand injury were mentioned. “No, it’s all good. We’ve got a great training staff that worked with me to get it right. You know, obviously throughout the season, there’s gonna be nicks and bruises in there, especially the SEC. But now it’s all good.”

Perry told the Herald-Leader that he did tweak his shooting hand/wrist area during the Cats’ loss to Alabama in the SEC Tournament last week, but he stretched it around to show it was feeling OK, and he didn’t have anything of a protective nature on the hand in the UK locker room.

Perry has seen an increased role recently due to injuries to key backcourt players, including Kerr Kriisa, Lamont Butler, and Jaxson Robinson. His emergence as a reliable shooter and floor spacer has been crucial in keeping Kentucky’s offense afloat during a challenging stretch of the season

Losing Perry would have been a significant blow for the Wildcats as they prepare for the NCAA Tournament. Depth has already been a concern, especially with Butler dealing with injuries and Robinson sidelined.

Thankfully, it does not appear Perry is in danger of missing Friday’s opener vs. the Troy Trojans. One thing is for sure: This team’s resilience and depth will be tested if they are to make a deep NCAA Tournament run.
