BREAKING: Cooper Flagg Withdraws from NBA Draft, Returns to Duke for Sophomore Season

In a surprising and exciting turn for college basketball fans, Duke sensation Cooper Flagg has officially withdrawn from the 2025 NBA Draft and announced his return to Duke University for his sophomore season.

Flagg, widely projected as the potential No. 1 overall pick, originally declared for the draft earlier this spring, testing the waters while keeping his college eligibility intact by not hiring a non-certified agent. After receiving feedback from NBA teams, Flagg has chosen to continue his development at the college level.

“This was not an easy decision,” Flagg said in a statement. “I’ve learned a lot through this process, but I know there’s more work to do and more memories to make in Durham. I’m excited to come back and chase a championship with my brothers.”

During his freshman year, Flagg dazzled fans and scouts alike with his explosive athleticism, court vision, and relentless defense. He led Duke deep into the NCAA tournament and became a household name across the country.

With the growing influence of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, Flagg’s return also reflects a shifting landscape in college athletics—where elite players can thrive both competitively and financially without immediately jumping to the professional level.

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer welcomed the news with excitement, calling Flagg’s return “a game-changer for our program and for college basketball as a whole.”

Flagg’s return makes Duke an instant national title contender for the upcoming season and sets the stage for what could be a historic sophomore campaign.
