Jurgen Klopp primed to call up Liverpool rookie to squad for Europa League clash

Liverpool were without a goalkeeper in the match against LASK due to Alisson Becker’s injury.

Caomheen Kelleher was fit for Liverpool’s final Europa League game despite Alisson Becker’s injury. The Ireland international is clearly the Reds’ cup keeper this season.

Carabao Cup duties previously belonged to him, but relegation to Europe’s second tier means Kelleher will get the chance to play more games this season.

Jurgen Klopp was heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the summer but the promise of more games and young talent means he will stay at the club, assistant manager Pep Lijnders has said.

Kelleher will make his sixth appearance of the season when LASK travel to Anfield in double capacity from last season. In fact, if Alisson is sidelined for a period during the 1-1 draw against Manchester City, he could be able to feature regularly in the team.

However, it means Liverpool will be short of back-up options against Austrian side LASK on Thursday night. The reason is that Adrian was not included in the ‘Reds’ Europa League group stage.

In accordance with UEFA regulations, Klopp left the player out of the squad and eventually decided to give his place to Ben Doek. Ben Doak does not deserve a place on the ‘B’ list as he has been out of Anfield for two years. It helps to develop motivation.

Vitezslav Jaros or Fabian Mrozek are therefore likely to be one of the replacements. Czech-born Jaros, 22, is the more experienced of the two, having spent time on loan at Patrick Thistle, Notts County and Stockport County. He has played twice for the Under-21s in the Premier League International Cup this season.

Polish stalker Mrozek, 20, made five appearances for Barry Lutas’ youth side in the 2023/24 season. Perhaps the most familiar name to fans is Marcelo Pitaluga.

The 20-year-old Brazil youth international spent last season on loan at non-league club Macclesfield after joining from Fluminense. In fact, there is a possibility of two new goalkeepers in the starting team.

Liverpool can name 12 substitutes and have a number of players who could miss the game, with Diogo Jota again a major doubt after limping off the field against City.

Jarosz and Mrozek tasted first-team action in last month’s 2-0 Europa League win over Union SG, while Kelleher had a knee problem.
