Man City ‘agree trial date’ for Prem charges in major blow to Arsenal and Liverpool

 

Manchester City was severely punished for breaching financial regulations. Manchester City have been sued by the Premier League for over 100 offences.

Manchester City are to face an independent commission into 115 alleged financial crimes by the end of next year, according to reports.

The scheduled date means Pep Guardiola and company will be looking to avoid a points deduction this season and give Arsenal and Liverpool a boost in their Premier League title hunt.

City have been charged with more than 100 breaches of Premier League rules following an investigation that began in 2018.

If found guilty, authorities will be under pressure to impose tougher penalties after Everton were handed 10 points for breaching revenue and sustainability rules earlier this season.

According to the Daily Mail, City and the Premier League have tentatively agreed to go before an independent committee later next autumn, with a decision expected in the summer of 2025.

This means that any punishment will not affect the outcome of the 2023/24 season or the current title race between City, Arsenal and Liverpool, unless it is applied retroactively.

It also suggests that Guardiola may not face any consequences as the Sky Blues’ contract expires at the same time as the expected ruling.

And whoever steps in to replace the former Barcelona coach can expect delays and tensions over a possible appeal.
