In an electrifying night for Wildcat fans, two former Kentucky men’s basketball players had their dreams come true as they heard their names called in the 2nd round of the 2025 NBA Draft. Koby Brea, the talented forward, was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 41st overall pick, but will actually join the Phoenix Suns, where he’ll team up with fellow Wildcat Devin Booker.
Just a few picks later, Amari Williams had his name called by the Orlando Magic with the 46th overall pick, but he’ll be heading to the Boston Celtics as part of a trade. Despite the ESPN broadcast cutting away to a commercial break, Williams’s moment was still unforgettable.
Brea’s selection wasn’t a surprise, as he was widely projected to be a 2nd-round pick in mock drafts leading up to the event. Williams, on the other hand, exceeded expectations after initially not being projected to get picked. His rise in recent mocks paid off, and he’s now set to start his NBA journey.
Meanwhile, Jaxson Robinson, Andrew Carr, and Lamont Butler will have to wait a bit longer to see if they’ll get their chance to shine in the league. Despite being listed as one of the best remaining available players by Jay Bilas, Robinson went undrafted, likely due to his season-ending wrist injury. He’ll now look to sign with a team as an undrafted free agent. Carr and Butler may also follow a similar path, with potential invites to the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
The 2025 NBA Draft may be over, but the Wildcats’ impact is just beginning. Will Brea and Williams make their mark on the league, or will Robinson, Carr, and Butler get their chance to shine as undrafted free agents? The future is bright for these talented Wildcats!
