🚨 Browns Shock Warning: Is All-Pro Diontae Johnson on the Chopping Block Ahead of 2025?

The NFL can be ruthless — and former All-Pro wide receiver Diontae Johnson may be learning that lesson the hard way. Just over a year ago, he was seen as a reliable weapon in Pittsburgh. Now, he’s fighting for his NFL life in Cleveland — and there are signs he might not make it through training camp.

The Cleveland Browns, who are already thin on elite offensive playmakers, may be ready to move on from the veteran wideout if he can’t show improvement — and fast. The addition of Jerry Jeudy was meant to give Deshaun Watson a new top target. But behind Jeudy, the depth chart is wide open — and Johnson may not be holding his ground.

According to respected Browns insider Terry Pluto, second-year wideout Jamari Thrash is turning heads at Browns OTAs and mini-camp. A sixth-round pick out of Louisville, Thrash barely made noise last season — catching just three passes in limited snaps. But all signs this offseason point to a major leap.

“The opportunity is there for Jamari Thrash,” Pluto wrote. “The Browns are looking for receivers behind Jerry Jeudy. Cedric Tillman would be No. 2 right now. Based on the spring practices, Thrash has emerged as No. 3.”

That’s a problem for Johnson. Despite once being a 1,000-yard receiver and a Pro Bowler with the Steelers, his career has gone off the rails over the last year and a half. He’s now on his fifth team in just 16 months, a red flag that his consistency — and perhaps his locker room fit — are in question.

To make matters worse, a controversial report surfaced from his short stint with the Baltimore Ravens. Johnson allegedly refused to enter a game last season because it was too cold. Whether or not that’s the full story, it’s the kind of headline that doesn’t help a veteran trying to hang on in a crowded locker room.

The Browns’ coaching staff is focused on youth, energy, and accountability — and Jamari Thrash seems to embody that mentality. His work ethic this offseason has reportedly been outstanding, and his understanding of the playbook is catching up to his athleticism.

Meanwhile, Johnson faces a steep hill. He’ll need to outshine younger, hungrier receivers who don’t carry his baggage. It’s not just about talent anymore — it’s about trust, reliability, and team chemistry. With Johnson’s track record and recent struggles, Cleveland may decide to go with players like Thrash, who have upside and clean slates.

Johnson still has the hands, the footwork, and the route-running ability to be a contributor. But if he can’t shake off the past and separate himself in training camp, this could be the end of the road.

One more sluggish week, and the All-Pro tag won’t save him. Cleveland is watching — and Jamari Thrash may be writing the final chapter of Diontae Johnson’s NFL story.
