Kylian Mbappé proven right as Liverpool reality ignored and Man City decision set

Liverpool is about to begin a big week, with three Premier League matches in the next seven days. After Fulham visits Anfield on Sunday, the Reds face trips to Sheffield United on Wednesday and Crystal Palace three days later.

As hectic as the schedule is, it is the same for all sides. Tottenham, for instance, plays Manchester City, West Ham and Newcastle, a much more testing trio of fixtures. Ange Postecoglou’s team is not in a good run of form, either, and has an incredible amount of injuries to contend with all at once.

Liverpool will obviously be most interested in how Manchester City fares, and after they host Spurs they go to Aston Villa and Luton. Leaders Arsenal also go to Kenilworth Road (on Tuesday) and then Villa Park next weekend, so face the same sides as the defending champions.

The Reds will hold a keen interest in another issue regarding City, and they continue to be linked with a move for Kylian Mbappé. With those factors in mind, here are some recent Liverpool.com stories you won’t want to miss ahead of a potentially very important period in the campaign.

Man City hearing date set
With Everton having recently been docked 10 points by the Premier League for being found guilty of a single charge, football supporters are fascinated to see what punishment Manchester City will face if the 115 charges against them are upheld. It will be a long time until we have an answer to that query, though a time frame in which it might appear has emerged.

It has been reported by the Daily Mail that City and the Premier League have agreed to sit next autumn, with a verdict then expected in summer 2025. Of course, if the Cityzens are found guilty then an appeal will no doubt be lodged but it will be fascinating to see how it unfolds. James Martin has more on that, as well as a decision that has angered Jürgen Klopp, here.

Newcastle complaint proves Kylian Mbappé right
It would be little surprise if Mbappé is sick of the sight of Newcastle, having seen his Paris Saint-Germain side come within a whisker of losing twice to the Magpies this season. The penalty from which he equalized in the 98th minute on Tuesday was hugely controversial and has moved Newcastle to make a complaint to UEFA.

Justifiably awarded for handball or not, it’s hard to say PSG didn’t deserve something from the game as they accumulated over four expected goals. “It’s frustrating because we dominated this team from start to finish,” Mbappé said to Canal+ (via The Athletic) after the match.

He probably has a point. But does Newcastle have one regarding the penalty? There is a trend for complaints from teams who failed to back up Liverpool when the Reds were conclusively wronged by officials and not just on the wrong end of a subjective call.
