Another Kentucky Native Will Play College Basketball at WKU

Weis, a 6-foot-7 versatile forward, is ranked as the No. 145 overall player in the class of 2026 according to national recruiting services. His recruitment was steadily heating up after strong showings at the prep level and on the grassroots circuit, but the Hilltoppers managed to win him over before his senior season even tipped off. Weis ultimately chose WKU over recent scholarship offers from Southern Illinois and UMass, two programs that had been pushing hard in recent months.

A Kentucky Native Who Took a National Path

Weis’s basketball journey has been one marked by steady growth and a willingness to test himself against elite competition. He began his high school career at Washington County High School in Springfield, where he quickly emerged as one of the most promising young players in the state. After two strong seasons at the local level, Weis made the decision to step onto a bigger stage.

For his junior year, he transferred to the prestigious Montverde Academy (Florida), a powerhouse program that has produced numerous NBA players and routinely plays against some of the best talent in the country. That experience gave Weis an opportunity to sharpen his skills, adapt to a faster pace of play, and compete daily with and against top-ranked recruits.

Following his year at Montverde, Weis opted to transfer again, this time to La Lumiere School (Indiana), another nationally recognized basketball academy. La Lumiere has long been known for producing Division I talent, and Weis will spend his senior year there, further preparing himself for the jump to college basketball.

What Weis Brings to WKU

On the court, Weis is considered a modern forward who can contribute in multiple areas. Standing at 6-foot-7, he possesses the size to battle in the paint but also the mobility and shooting touch to step out on the perimeter. Coaches and scouts have praised his versatility, noting his ability to guard multiple positions, stretch the floor with his jump shot, and finish around the rim.

For Hank Plona, who continues to establish his recruiting identity at Western Kentucky, securing a player like Weis represents more than just another addition to the roster.
