Jurgen Klopp did not want to take credit for Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace but insisted his side can change their system again.
Jurgen Klopp says he does not want to take any credit for Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Reds spent most of the game at Selhurst Park, denying Jean-Philippe Mateta a penalty in the 57th minute, with the first shot on target in the 76th minute after Jordan Ayew was sent off.
Mohamed Salah scored his 200th goal to equalize against Liverpool, while substitute Harvey Elliott scored the winner in extra time.
Meanwhile, Klopp changed his team’s system to turn things around against Palace. At half-time, they switched to a 4-2-3-1 with Trent Alexander-Arnold pushed into midfield, Salah up front and Elliott in place.
Soon afterwards. The Kop explains who were the real heroes of Fulham’s win as Liverpool’s adaptation paid off.
With Liverpool without many of their first-team stars through injury ahead of the busy festive period, Klopp said he can continue to change his system depending on the players he has available.
“You need a team that can make the difference and now we have the quality back,” he told reporters after the final whistle. “If he hadn’t been injured, we would have brought Diogo Jota in today, which would have been a big help.
“Men have qualities. So they show it. It’s more of a mindset. The bad thing about the number of games we play is that it is very tiring. The best part is that everyone can and should play.
“That means we can take the necessary steps today. The players have changed but we’ve changed the system. I don’t want to take credit for that because that’s what we have to do and that’s what helped us.
“At the end, Gakpo on the right, Lucho on the left, Mo and Harvey 10 played together and entered. I tried everything and finally got it. It was up to the players to take any helping hand we could give them. I played better.
“You could say it’s against 10 men, but we’ve played a lot with 10 men this season and it’s hard to play against us. I know how hard it is.
People say that things have changed, but I played very well.”We must not think that we have a perfect system. We have to work with players who have physical ability. We can play a variety of systems. “I went through this Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday. It was very hard, tough and good.”
