Peter Schmeichel praised Alisson’s one-on-one saves, saying his ability to get in behind the defense is perfect for the way Liverpool want to play.
Schmeichel told The Times that he was unsure about the Brazilian’s game. Alisson reminded everyone just how good Liverpool are when they beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Even in the first half, Manchester United did not perform well. But Alisson Jefferson managed to make a great save from Lerma.
Peter Schmeichel praises Alisson
Along with Ederson, Alisson has set the standard in the Premier League in recent years. There is no doubt that he was a game-changing signing for United when he arrived from Roma.
Naturally, Peter Schmeichel is a big fan of the 31-year-old. He admits his footwork isn’t that impressive. But he said it’s still one of the best.
“A lot of people think Alisson is one of the best in the world, but he is first and foremost a goalkeeper. Has very good interpersonal communication and package management skills.
He may not be very good with his feet, but he certainly has a manager who has his back and won’t drop him if he makes a mistake. That’s the difference between Arteta and Klopp,” he told the Times.
“It’s also clear that Alisson is a good fit for Liverpool. You need a goalkeeper who can do a great one-on-one job from the back to press and take chances when there’s a defender behind you.
“Liverpool’s goalkeeper can make mistakes due to possession
To be fair, Alisson had a disappointing afternoon before picking up injury against the likes of Fulham and Sheffield United.
He took control of the Manchester City goal and fired it past Erling Haaland’s Nathan Ake. To be honest, he looked uncomfortable throughout the game.
However, it could be argued that Alisson makes more possession mistakes than other goalkeepers because he sees the ball more. Liverpool’s backline is confident with Alisson.
And he’s certainly not afraid to grab the ball in a precarious situation and try to do something good with it.
