The North Carolina basketball team and Hubert Davis are officially on the board for the 2026 class. In case you missed it, standout small forward Maximo Adams gave Davis and his staff the news he was hoping for, committing to the Tar Heels over Texas, Michigan State and Kentucky.
After his late October official visit to Chapel Hill, it felt like the stars were aligning for North Carolina to win this recruiting battle. So, what was it about UNC that made this a pretty easy call for the 6-7, 205-pounder from California? In an interview with 247Sports’ Travis Branham, Adams gave a head-turning quote on why he’s UNC-bound.

“The culture, tradition and honor of a program is important to me,” Adams told Branham following his announcement. “Also, the fans are second to none; they’re engaging and create a fun environment day in and day out for the team.”
Come on, that’s just awesome to see. Not only does Adams value the tradition, but he has seen how much the fans can make a difference for the program. If anything, that has him even more fired up to make the move to the college level next year.
This is an exciting get for the Heels and Davis. While Adams is ranked a 4-star talent by the majority of recruiting services, he’s locked in as a 5-star SF according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s also ranked the No. 10 SF in the land and No. 22 prospect overall for the ’26 class.
Now that Adams has given the Tar Heels his verbal, Davis will now shift his focus to other playmakers high on his board. The list of course includes 5-star guard Dylan Mingo, who was at the win over NC Central on Friday night as part of his official visit. Could you imagine Mingo and Adams teaming up together next campaign? Yeah, that’d be incredible if Davis can pull that off.
