The North Carolina Tar Heels are still navigating through the 2025-26 college basketball season and have hit a bit of a road bump as of late. But the future of the program is also important in terms of recruiting classes.
For Hubert Davis and his staff, they have just one commitment in the 2026 recruiting class with Maximo Adams pledging his commitment in late 2025. The Tar Heels don’t have many targets left and right now, the focus is on five-star guard Dylan Mingo. He visited North Carolina in the Fall during his recruitment and the Tar Heels are one of four finalists. Now, Mingo is ready to make his decision and he has set a date for that announcement. Mingo will announce his decision on Thursday, January 22nd and will pick between Baylor, UNC, Penn State, and Washington.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Mingo is ranked No. 6 nationally, the No. 3 combo guard and No. 1 player in the state of New York per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
It felt like as the recruitment went on, it was a two-team race with UNC and Baylor emerging as the favorites. Going into decision day, it sounds like Baylor is the favorite, as they have the only crystal ball prediction on 247Sports. If UNC is going to win this recruitment, they are going to need to make up some ground in a hurry.
