UNC Stars Break Silence After Duke Loss as Trimble, Dixon and Veesaar Explain the Key Moments That Cost the Tar Heels

The North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball suffered a tough rivalry loss on the road against the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball, and several UNC players shared their thoughts after the game about what went wrong and what the team must improve moving forward.
Guard Seth Trimble spoke candidly about the disappointment of losing a major rivalry game, admitting that it was difficult for the team but stressing the importance of learning from the setback.
“We just have to learn from it,” Trimble said. “It’s tough losing a game like this, especially against Duke, but we’ve got to move forward and get ready for what’s next.”
Trimble noted that rivalry games always bring an extra level of intensity and pressure, something he believes the Tar Heels must handle better if they want to compete with top teams late in the season.
Freshman guard Derek Dixon also addressed the loss and pointed to execution issues that hurt UNC throughout the game against Duke’s aggressive defense.
“We had our moments, but we didn’t execute the way we needed to,” Dixon said. “Against a team like Duke, every mistake gets magnified.”
Dixon added that the team created some scoring opportunities but struggled to maintain consistency, especially when Duke began to build momentum during key stretches of the game.
Meanwhile, center Henri Veesaar discussed the physical battle inside and credited Duke for controlling important areas of the matchup.
“They were more aggressive on the boards and they made us pay for our mistakes,” Veesaar said. “We have to be better in those areas if we want to win games like this.”
Veesaar emphasized that rebounding and defensive intensity were major factors that ultimately helped Duke take control of the contest as the game progressed.
Despite the disappointing result, the Tar Heels players made it clear that the focus now shifts to learning from the loss and preparing for the challenges that lie ahead as the regular season winds down.
