CAMERON BOOZER CROWNED NAISMITH PLAYER OF THE YEAR AFTER STELLAR SEASON

ameron Boozer has officially cemented his place among college basketball’s elite, capturing the prestigious Naismith Player of the Year honor after a sensational freshman campaign with Duke Blue Devils. The announcement, made by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, marks a remarkable back-to-back achievement for Duke, following Cooper Flagg’s win in 2025.

From the moment Boozer stepped onto the court, expectations were sky-high. Widely regarded as one of the most hyped prospects in recent memory, the 18-year-old didn’t just meet those expectations—he exceeded them in nearly every category. His freshman season was defined by consistency, dominance, and an ability to deliver under pressure, making him one of the most impactful players in the nation.

Boozer averaged an outstanding 22.5 points per game, ranking fourth across NCAA Division I. His presence in the paint was equally commanding, pulling down 10.2 rebounds per game, which placed him 12th nationally. These numbers highlight not just scoring ability, but also his versatility and physical dominance on both ends of the floor.

Over the course of the season, Boozer accumulated 855 total points and 389 rebounds—both figures ranking as the third-highest in Duke program history. Such production is rare for any player, let alone a freshman, and it underscores just how special his season truly was. Game after game, Boozer proved to be a reliable force, scoring at least 13 points in every appearance.

His ability to elevate his performance was particularly evident in high-scoring outings. Boozer recorded 20 or more points in 23 games, showcasing his offensive consistency. Even more impressive were his four performances with 30 or more points, demonstrating his capacity to take over games when needed. One of his standout moments came early in the season against Indiana State Sycamores on November 14, when he exploded for 35 points in just his fourth collegiate game. That performance served as an early signal that Boozer was destined for greatness.

When the stakes were highest during the NCAA Tournament, Boozer continued to shine. Across Duke’s four-game run, he averaged 22.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, maintaining his regular-season form against the toughest competition. Although the Blue Devils fell short of capturing a national championship, Boozer’s performances ensured that the team remained competitive and dangerous throughout the tournament.

Beyond individual stats, Boozer’s impact extended to the history books. His Naismith Player of the Year win carries a unique distinction—it marks the first time that both the college basketball player of the year and the Heisman Trophy winner emerged from the same high school. Boozer shares this rare connection with Fernando Mendoza, as both athletes attended Columbus High School in Miami. This milestone highlights not only Boozer’s individual excellence but also the remarkable athletic pedigree of his alma mater.

As his freshman season concludes, all signs point to Boozer declaring for the upcoming NBA Draft. Widely projected as a lottery pick, he is expected to be among the first names called in June. His combination of size, skill, basketball IQ, and proven production makes him one of the most attractive prospects in the draft class.

While his college career may be brief, Boozer’s impact at Duke will not be forgotten anytime soon. In just one season, he delivered performances that placed him among the program’s greats, carried his team deep into March, and earned the most prestigious individual award in college basketball. His journey reflects not just talent, but preparation, discipline, and a relentless drive to succeed.
