North Carolina’s roster situation is far from complete for the 2026-27 basketball season. With the hiring of Michael Malone as the next head coach, plenty of players have entered the transfer portal to test the waters. There’s also the Tar Heels’ recruiting class, headlined by commits Maximo Adams and Dylan Mingo. While they would be big additions to the roster, a new coach could make them reconsider. However, one of those recruits has already made his decision.

On Saturday, Adams told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi that he is NOT decommitting and will remain a Tar Heel despite the coaching change. Adams told ESPN that UNC is his dream school. “I’ve always wanted to play for the Tar Heels,” Adams told ESPN. “It was my dream school growing up, and I’m excited to be coached by Coach Malone.”

The forward hails from California and was the first player to commit to North Carolina’s 2026 class as a four-star recruit. He picked the Tar Heels over finalists Texas, Michigan State, and Kentucky.

With Adams staying committed, the focus shifts to five-star guard Dylan Mingo. He has yet to announce his decision but the Tar Heels are also pursuing his brother who entered the transfer portal out of Penn State.
