Former Tottenham striker Defoe has predicted Arsenal will finish fourth this season, behind Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City. The discussion, which also included Alan Shearer and Gabby Logan, took place during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the Emirates Stadium. Asked to predict the top four teams in the Premier League this season, Defoe confidently placed Tottenham ahead of Arsenal, much to Henry’s surprise.
‘What did you say? “Tottenham?” he shouted. Despite Henry’s incredulous reaction, Defoe came true with his prediction. Henry denied his prediction when asked by Shearer. He indicates he prefers to wait until the holidays are over before making predictions. He added that audience predictions before February are just guess work and should be avoided. “I won’t answer,” said Henry. “Sound whatever you want. I always reply after the holidays. Talk to me around February. You can’t call [the league] early. You guessed it. “I don’t like to guess.”Arsenal’s loss to West Ham was a missed opportunity for the country to regain their first place at the top of the Premier League. They are currently two points behind Liverpool, with Aston Villa and Manchester City behind them.
If Manchester City beat Sheffield United in this game, they will overtake Arsenal on goal difference.Tottenham are fighting for a place in the top four despite their recent 4-2 loss to Brighton. The team dominated for three weeks from October to November, but then fell apart due to injuries to the first team.
During Amazon Prime’s recent broadcast of Arsenal vs West Ham, former footballer Thierry Henry was taken aback by teammate Jermain Defoe’s predictions about Arsenal’s Premier League position.
