Liverpool face January from Hell – and it could get worse with little rest in sight

Heading into a season where the cliché “every game is a cup final now” applies, Jurgen Klopp will no doubt feel this weekend’s meeting with Arsenal is a must-win. And not just because he keeps Liverpool out of the FA Cup and aiming for at least four trophies this season.
Plus, it means they don’t want to spoil their winter break with a rematch with the Gunners. That means the Reds have a busier start to the year as their opponents enjoy the recovery time.

Let’s beat Manchester City, who currently have three games scheduled this month. That number could rise to four if they beat Huddersfield this weekend and up to five if they need a second leg against a Championship side to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

However, Liverpool can play eight games this month, giving teams a break during this period. What will happen to Liverpool in the three competitions before February?

The Reds played a game against Newcastle on a stormy evening at Anfield on Monday.
However, they are currently preparing for an FA Cup tie against Arsenal, meaning Klopp cannot rotate too much if he wants his side to stay in the competition. In case of a tie, the match will be played on January 16 or 17.

It means the 11-day break between next week’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham and the league game against Bournemouth on January 21 will be shortened. With the Reds taking on the Cottagers in the second round of the League Cup on January 24, and the fourth round three days later, this is the only week off they can muster.

Then there’s the clash with Chelsea to end the month in the Premier League. I’m confused. Mohamed Salah will not play again until February due to Egypt’s absence from the AFCON.
