Alan Shearer was impressed with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate’s performance in their FA Cup tie against Arsenal.
The France international was in the starting line-up with Virgil van Dijk missing the game through illness, while Konate played a big part in Liverpool’s defense against Arsenal.
Alongside Jarrell Kuansah, the £36m signing from RB Leipzig was up against the likes of Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, who struggled on the night.
During BBC Sport’s coverage of the match, Shearer praised Konate, who was one of Liverpool’s best players against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Indeed, the French defender has returned to his best form since injury this season and Konate was rightly praised for his performance in north London tonight.
“Just call team support,” Shearer said. Trent was there, he needed help and that’s what konate did: great defence.’
Konate had to come on tonight when Van Dijk was taken off in the last minute due to illness and the France international did just that for Liverpool.
The centre-back was in top form for the Reds tonight, with Konate showing why he is the present and future of Liverpool’s defence.
With Van Dijk ruled out indefinitely, it could be time for Konate to become a key player for Liverpool, scoring the first try of the night.
