As Liverpool get set to hold talks with Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has confirmed there is a secret “gentleman’s agreement” in place with the 25-year-old striker.
The French striker is the subject of intense speculation as the world waits with bated breath to see who Mbappe decides to join.
His £1.2 million per week contract with PSG expires at the end of the season and Liverpool are reportedly holding talks with his entourage to see if Anfield will be a suitable destination for the next chapter in his career.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has confirmed a secret “gentleman’s agreement” with Mbappe
In an interview with RMC, Al-Khelaifi said: “I want Kylian Mbappe to stay at PSG. He’s the best player in the world, and PSG is the best club for him. He’s key to our project.”
A recent report from le10sport states that “remains in pole position” to keep Mbappe while Liverpool are “clearly not out of the race.” They report say that the Reds will need “to be very convincing in the coming weeks” to beat the very intense competition to sign the world-class Frenchman.
This means Mbappe could still extend his contract which does include an option that only the player can trigger. It would automatically renew his deal until the end of the 2024/25 season, leaving him with all the power with regards to where he takes his talents.
Al-Khelaifi has referenced a “gentleman’s agreement” but has chosen to keep its nature a secret but it’s clear that PSG are not out of the race to sign Mbappe yet. Real Madrid remain the favourites to sign him but anything can happen in a transfer of this magnitude.
