Tottenham target has already revealed why Liverpool have transfer advantage

Tottenham transfer target Morten Frendrup has revealed that he is a Liverpool fan after he was linked with a move to the Premier League from Serie A side Genoa.

 

The Danish midfielder has attracted interest from Spurs and Liverpool in the first half of the season. Ange Postecoglou’s men recently signed defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa this window and have now turned their attention to Frendup.

Liverpool are also said to be monitoring his progress in Italy, though football.london sister title, Liverpool Echo, has suggested a deal is more likely to happen in the summer.

Frendrup joined Genoa in 2022 from Brondby and has become a regular starter under Alberto Gilardino. The midfielder, who often plays as the Italian club’s deeper midfielder, has created five goals in all competitions this season.

 

Both teams are expected to keep a close eye on his situation at Genoa throughout the second half of the season. But should a transfer battle play out between Spurs and Liverpool, the Lilywhites may find themselves at a disadvantage.

In an interview with Danish outlet Sjællandske Nyheder in 2018, Frendrup shared his dream of playing for Liverpool. “It’s a dream I’ve always had, and I believe it will succeed,” he said. “If I work hard, I believe in it.”

Frendrup has two years remaining on his current contract at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium and will become a free agent in the summer of 2026 unless he agrees new terms. Tottenham are desperate for further reinforcements in midfield to add depth to the likes of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur, two players who have suffered with their own injury setbacks.
