Liverpool

A big money transfer between Liverpool and Crystal Palace solves a big problem for both sides

Liverpool have defensive problems and Crystal Palace could lose one of their best players. But can both sides help each other? Crystal Palace are in an interesting and slightly worrying position from a fans’ perspective. On the one hand, they have an outstanding group of young players who could represent a core of extraordinary quality that could take the club forward in the coming years. On the other hand, in the batch, especially in the front line, it is still not successfully solved and the results are even worse.

Even if they stay in the Premier League, it will be a long time before players like Michael Olise stop signing new contracts and look for pastures new. Currently, Liverpool has different problems. First of all, it is included in nature. They are located at the top of the table and fly to height, but I know they are approaching their time. With Jurgen Klopp gone, the core of players who led them to the Premier League and Champions League titles are now close to 30. Mohamed Salah could be tempted again by the riches of Saudi Arabia, while Virgil van Dijk, who turns 33 years this summer, he says he’s not sure if he’ll be part of a new era.

The Reds have been searching for a centre-back for most of this season, with reports linking the likes of Ousmane Diomand and Levi Colville with moves in the summer. Joel Matip is likely to leave in the summer when his contract expires, with Van Dijk likely to follow, not to mention staying a bit longer, and Liverpool appear to be taking a light look at the backline. It would not be surprising if they reconsider signing Marc Guehi for a return to Crystal Palace.

The centre-back has been tentatively linked with some of the Premier League’s biggest sides this summer, and even if that move never materialises, it seems unlikely that Palace will keep hold of the England international defender forever. His current contract has two years remaining and expires in the summer of 2026. Palace may want to extend his contract or set the wheels in motion when they sell him this summer. Eventually its value will decrease. With him entering the final year of his contract, this coming summer could be their last chance to get top dollar for one of their biggest talents.

Guehi, 22, has shown all the qualities Liverpool have been looking for in a defender so far. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet, confident in passing and control and can cover the ground very quickly with a pace of 22. He suppresses counter-attacks and reads the game like a book. He is often outside when marking someone and tends to leave the best passing and shooting angles when pressing. He is a huge talent and could become Liverpool’s star defender for the next decade. People can be the player Joe Gomez looking for? Gomez is now Liverpool’s longest-serving player, but his situation at Anfield is strange. His versatility means he’s been an important part of the team’s depth, but he’s certainly not considered a starter. Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are preferred at centre-back, while Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are preferred at full-back. That’s why Gomez covers injuries during cup matches or fills in when the regular team needs rest. This significantly reduces his abilities.

Like Guehi, he is very confident with the ball at his feet and is a good ball carrier, an important trait in a possession-based system, and like Guehi, he is quick and strong enough to cover defensive spaces. The downside is that Guehi seems to be in the right position at a surprising rate, while Gomez tends to be on the wrong side of his player, but at least he has very good judgment when it comes to tackling. When it goes wrong, it comes back.Palace play a deeper defense than Liverpool and this will help compensate for Gomez’s shortcomings and he will be one of the first names on the Selhurst Park team sheet. And it won’t happen
