Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils have made it look easy on their way to the first Final Four appearance under the three-year coach.
On Saturday night, No. 1 seed Duke took down No. 2 Alabama 85-65 in the Elite Eight, cutting down the regional final nets for the first time since 2022.
This is not the first time Scheyer has been in the Final Four with Duke, however.
From 2006-2010, he started as a guard for the majority of his playing career with the Blue Devils, leading the team to the 2010 Final Four in his senior season before winning the national championship.
Now, Scheyer joins some elite company, becoming just the third person in history to take the same program to the Final Four as a head coach and a player, according to the ACC Network.
Joe B. Hall became the first person to accomplish this. He helped the Kentucky Wildcats win a national championship in 1949 as a player before coaching them to three Final Fours between 1972 and 1985.
“History for Jon Scheyer @DukeMBB,” ACC Network wrote on X. “Third person in NCAA Tournament history to coach and play in a Final Four at his alma mater.”Scheyer became a consensus second-team All-American during his time playing with Duke, winning an ACC tournament MVP as well. He also holds the ACC all-time single-season record for minutes played, receiving 1,470 minutes of action during his senior season (2009-10).
Up next for Scheyer and Duke, a trip to San Antonio, Texas, for the Final Four. They will get the winner of No. 1 Houston and No. 2 Tennessee on Saturday.
