Alabama suffered a tough loss to Duke by 20 points in the Elite 8 round of the men’s NCAA Tournament last weekend.
Like almost every other school, it will have to watch Monday’s national championship game on television when the Houston Cougars take on the Florida Gators for all the marbles.
However, Alabama got a bit of good news on Sunday. Jalil Bethea, a promising guard who just finished his freshman season with the Miami Hurricanes, has decided where he will play next season after entering the transfer portal.
The 6-foot-5 Philadelphia native will be suiting up for the Crimson Tide this fall.
Bethea played in the McDonald’s All-American Boys Game last year when he was a senior at Archbishop Wood Catholic High School on the outskirts of the Philadelphia area. He was considered a consensus five-star recruit and turned down offers from Kansas and local powerhouse Villanova to play for the Hurricanes
This season, he averaged 7.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.6 steals in 19.0 minutes a game. He shot just 36.8% from the field and 32.6% from 3-point range.
Miami had a horrible season, as it finished with a record of just 7-24. He should find himself in better surroundings now that he’ll be on a squad that went 28-9 this year.
