Liverpool has been heralded by former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who admits it will be hard for anyone to catch up — least of all Spurs!
Sir Alex Ferguson has begrudgingly admitted that Liverpool and Manchester City remain the clear pace-setters in the modern era of the Premier League. The Manchester United legend, who created a dynasty at Old Trafford, sees it being hard to topple the two sides.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Ferguson was asked if Spurs would ever win the Premier League. His answer was as simple as it was brutal: “No.”
While there was no doubt a degree of humor in the response, Ferguson went on to explain his reasoning. He claimed that even Manchester United will have difficulties closing the gap that has emerged to Liverpool and Manchester City — no doubt a painful truth for him.
“1961 was the last time they won it, that’s a long time,” Ferguson said of Spurs. “The proposition today with Liverpool and Man City being so powerful in the Premier League, even for United…”
Ferguson was cut off at that point, but seemed to be acknowledging that Manchester United faces a similarly stern challenge to Spurs when it comes to truly getting in contention for the title. The wait is starting to grow at Old Trafford, where it has now been a decade since the last Premier League triumph.
This season, Liverpool and Manchester City once again lead the way. Arsenal, last year’s runner-up, can move level on points with Pep Guardiola’s men with a win today — although it’s interesting to note that Ferguson did not place the Gunners in the same bracket of teams that make it so hard for anyone else to claim the title.
