In a stunning display of generosity, Alyssa Ustby, the standout former UNC Tar Heels women’s basketball star, has donated an incredible $50 million to the university’s women’s basketball program.
Ustby, who recently concluded a remarkable collegiate career and has since taken on a leadership role in the world of venture capital, made the announcement on Monday. Now a partner at Liquid 2 Ventures, she emphasized the importance of investing in women’s athletics and creating long-term opportunities for future generations of student-athletes.
“This program shaped me in every way—on the court and beyond,” Ustby said. “I want young women coming to UNC to have the best resources, facilities, and mentorship possible. This gift is about building a legacy of excellence.”
The donation is one of the largest ever made to a women’s collegiate sports program and will support the development of training facilities, academic support, and scholarships, as well as a leadership academy for female athletes.
UNC Athletic Director said the gift is “transformational” and “a game changer not just for basketball, but for women’s sports at large.”
The Tar Heels, looking to build on their proud tradition, now have even more reason to aim for national dominance—with a star from the past lighting the way forward.
