Auburn, AL – In a major recruiting coup, the Auburn Tigers have officially landed one of the most sought-after players in the NCAA transfer portal — Elyjah Freeman, a Division II standout who lit up the stat sheet during his freshman season. The 6-foot-8 small forward announced his commitment to Auburn, confirming the news to On3Sports in an exclusive interview.

Freeman, who turned heads across the country with his explosive play, averaged 18.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting a blistering 57% from the field and 46% from beyond the arc. His decision to transfer comes after a freshman campaign that placed him firmly among the top D2 prospects available this offseason.

Head Coach Bruce Pearl expressed his excitement over the newest Tiger:

Freeman is expected to step into a key rotational role immediately and could even contend for a starting spot, depending on how he adapts to SEC-level competition. Given his performance last season and his elite shooting numbers, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Freeman quickly become a fan favorite at Neville Arena.

From Underrated to Unstoppable

Freeman’s path to the SEC wasn’t a traditional one. Overlooked by many high-major programs out of high school, he found his footing at the D2 level, where he quickly emerged as a dominant force. His ability to shine under the radar and prove himself against older, experienced competition makes his rise even more impressive.
