Nick Saban Makes Blunt Admission on Regret at Alabama During NFL Draft
Nick Saban expressed a deep regret during ABC’s NFL Draft telecast on Friday. On Day 2 of the draft, Ohio State Buckeyes running back Quinshon Judkins was drafted by the Cleveland Browns as the 36th overall pick.
Speaking about Judkins, Saban stated that he is a big player that Alabama missed out on recruiting.
“Well, he’s another one of those recruits that we never got,” Saban said. “This guy is a banger. I mean, he is a downhill runner. He’s got great instincts to read, to make lateral cuts and burst and accelerate. Got great vision. But I think the one thing this guy doesn’t have is great finishing speed.”
Judkins starred at Ole Miss, rushing for 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2022 and adding 1,158 yards and 15 TDs in 2023, before transferring to Ohio State for the 2024 season, where he piled up 1,060 yards and 14 scores en route to a CFP title.
“He brings the brand of football that we want, AFC North ‘back,’” Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Personnel Glenn Cook said. “Exceptionally strong, physical, tough, productive three-down guy. I know (running backs coach) Duce (Staley) is extremely excited.”
Saban’s candid praise highlights Judkins’ blend of power and play-processing, traits Alabama hoped to harness but ultimately missed.
