BREAKING NEWS: Alabama Football Legend Derrick Henry Makes Monumental $14.8 Million Donation to the University of Alabama for Stadium Renovation Project

In a historic act of generosity, Alabama football icon Derrick Henry has donated an astounding $14.8 million to the University of Alabama, earmarked specifically for the renovation and expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium. The contribution marks one of the largest individual donations in the university’s athletic history and cements Henry’s legacy not just as a gridiron great, but as a passionate supporter of his alma mater.

Henry, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2015 and helped lead the Crimson Tide to a national championship, announced the gift during a press conference held on campus Monday morning. Surrounded by university officials, athletic department leaders, and former teammates, Henry described the moment as “a way of giving back to the place that gave me everything.”

The $14.8 million donation will go toward a comprehensive stadium improvement plan that includes upgraded locker rooms, enhanced fan experiences, expanded seating, and state-of-the-art training facilities for Alabama’s student-athletes. The renovation is expected to begin in early 2026 and be completed before the 2028 season.

University President Dr. Stuart Bell expressed deep gratitude for Henry’s generosity, calling it a “transformative gift that will benefit generations of Crimson Tide athletes and fans.” Bell emphasized how Henry’s donation reflects the culture of excellence and family that defines Alabama football.

Athletic Director Greg Byrne noted that Henry’s contribution will be recognized in a meaningful way within the stadium. “We are exploring ways to honor Derrick’s legacy permanently at Bryant-Denny, including naming opportunities and a special tribute area for fans to celebrate his impact both on and off the field,” Byrne stated.

Henry’s journey from a high school phenom in Yulee, Florida, to a college football legend in Tuscaloosa, and then a dominant NFL running back, has inspired countless young athletes. His decision to invest in Alabama’s future speaks volumes about his character and loyalty to the Crimson Tide community.

“This isn’t just about football,” Henry said. “It’s about creating opportunities for young men and women who come to Alabama with dreams, just like I did. It’s about helping them succeed in every area of life—academics, athletics, and beyond.”

Current Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer praised Henry’s commitment, calling him “a model ambassador for the program.” DeBoer added that the donation will also help in recruiting top talent, as prospective players will see firsthand the kind of support and tradition that fuels Alabama football.

The University plans to hold a formal groundbreaking ceremony later this year, with Henry expected to attend alongside university leaders, alumni, and fans. The event is likely to draw national attention, underscoring the magnitude of Henry’s contribution.
