Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly set to miss out on one of their shared summer target.
Jurgen Klopp is said to have a long-standing interest in Leroy Sane
Leroy Sane, who is said to be a target for both Liverpool and Chelsea, has reportedly decided to extend his stay at Bayern Munich rather than seeking a move elsewhere in the summer. Sane has recently been linked with a return to the Premier League, with Jurgen Klopp previously thought to have identified him as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Chelsea have also been credited with a desire to land Sane, who joined Bayern Munich from Manchester City in the summer of 2020. The Blues have expressed an interest in the winger over the last few months, according to Sport, with Barcelona and Liverpool also said to have reached out.
However, the same report claims that Sane is likely to sign another contract at Bayern Munich after teaming up with a new agent. He is now represented by Christian Schmid, the agent of team-mate Jamal Musiala who is said to have a strong relationship with the club’s hierarchy.
Sane is currently tied down until the summer of 2025, meaning that Bayern will face a dilemma over whether to cash in later this year if he fails to renew by then. However, his desire to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena suggests that he will not be moving any time soon, leaving Liverpool and Chelsea with little hope of snapping him up.
The German winger is reportedly keen to extend his stay at Bayern Munich
The former Manchester City man has been a key player for Thomas Tuchel in recent months, chipping in with eight goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga this season. Sane remained coy when quizzed on his future while on international duty with Germany over the winter, although he did hint that he would be happy to stay at Bayern Munich.
“I haven’t given it any thought yet,” he said. “The club wants to have talks, but at the moment I want to focus on this season. FC Bayern remains my first point of contact, there’s no doubt about that.”
