Chelsea are leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens this summer, with the forward ‘dreaming’ of a move to the Premier League according to Christian Falk.
The Blues are in the mix for Champions League football next season under Enzo Maresca after a campaign which has seen them blow both hot and cold, while they are also in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League following an aggregate win over Legia Warsaw this week.
Plans for the summer window have already begun being made, with new attackers seen as a priority, and Gittens is someone the club are keeping a close eye on.
Chelsea Pushing for Gittens Deal
Gittens has had an excellent season in Germany this year, registering 12 goals and three assists in 43 appearances so far in all competitions, which has seen big interest emerge in his signature.
Such was his form earlier in the season, Dortmund placed a €100m (£85m) asking price on his head amid anticipation that there would be big interest from the Premier League. But Falk has revealed that after Niko Kovac took charge, the 21-year-old has dropped down the pecking order and his asking price has now been slashed in half.
“Chelsea have the best chance of prevailing in this particular piece of transfer poker. The question is: how much money is the club prepared to pay? “Dortmund have already lowered their price tag: from €100 to 50million. This is because the player does not fit into coach Niko Kovac’s system. That’s why the player himself would also be very much in favour of a move. Gittens’ dream is a transfer to the Premier League.”
Gittens, who has been described as ‘one of Europe’s best dribblers’, is very keen on a move to the Premier League, and he previously spent time at the Cobham academy before heading to Man City, where he then joined Dortmund in 2020.
With Chelsea set to make a decision on the future of Jadon Sancho, with some reports suggesting he is expected to return to Man Utd, and question marks over the future of Mykhailo Mudryk, Gittens has now emerged as a key target. A new striker is also expected at Stamford Bridge, with strong interest in Ipswich star Liam Delap.
