Chelsea are weighing up a sensational move to re-sign Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne this summer, according to Simon Phillips.
The Belgium legend has announced that he will leave Man City when his contract expires this summer, having not received an offer from club chiefs, despite ten years of incredible success in the blue half of Manchester where he won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and a Champions League trophy.
De Bruyne has admitted that he is open to continuing to play at the top level when he leaves, and Chelsea are reportedly ready to test that by keeping him in the Premier League.
Chelsea Eyeing Kevin De Bruyne
Having started his Premier League career with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a move to the Bundesliga saw him develop into a superstar before his move to Man City.
The playmaker has become one of the best attacking midfielders of his generation, but an injury hit few years have seen his influence diminish at the Etihad Stadium and the club opted against renewing his £400,000-a-week contract with the club.
Chelsea are now looking to add some experience to their young squad, and it’s believed that club chiefs have now internally discussed a potential move to re-sign the 33-year-old ahead of the new season on a free transfer.

No formal approach has been made to the player currently, but Chelsea chiefs are keen to find out if he would be open to the move – and they would be willing to break their wage structure to sign him, although he would still need to take a pay cut for the move to happen. Chelsea are looking to secure Champions League football for the first time in three seasons, and are currently two points behind Newcastle in fifth place with five games remaining.
