If Egypt reach the Africa Cup of Nations final, Jurgen Klopp could be without his star man for eight games, including FA Cup and Premier League games with title rivals Arsenal and the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham.

Salah has once again proven to be Liverpool’s most lethal player this season. He has scored 12 times and provided seven assists in 19 Premier League appearances, inspiring United to the top of the table, at least for now.But Gakpo, who beat Burnley 2-0, believes Liverpool will have enough strength to fill Salah’s absence.

Dutch striker Darwin Nunes and the return of Diogo Yota reassured the fans.At Turf Moor, Nunes’ fine finish from outside the penalty area and Jota’s late goal gave Liverpool three points, and after the final whistle, Gakpo expressed his delight at being in front.

The 24-year-old former PSV star said of Nunes and Jota getting on the scoresheet: “It’s always good to get strikers back on the scoresheet after not scoring for a few games and Darwin did that really well . Good reason.”

The same goes for Diogo. It’s always good to come back from injury and score, it’s good for your confidence. So I’m very happy. “Mo needs a goal because he was sent off after the Newcastle game,” he said.

A win over struggling Burnley moved Klopp’s side temporarily two points clear at the top of the table before Arsenal take on London rivals West Ham at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night. It’s a welcome change from last season’s Champions League exit.

But Gakpo made it clear that nobody at Liverpool was thinking of winning the title, confirming what his manager said after Burnley. He added: “The meals are not bad, but we have to take them one at a time.”

“We can’t get our heads around everything. We have to stay focused and keep doing what we’re doing and keep improving.”
