The Duke Blue Devils have advanced to the Elite 8 after defeating Arizona, 100-93, behind a historic performance from freshman Cooper Flagg.
Duke’s All-American freshman posted 30 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
He tied his career-high seven assists, proving to be an all-around talent in the Sweet 16 elimination game. Flagg entered the game as a finalist for the Naismith National Player of the Year award and he may have just put the final touches on any voters contemplating their decision.The freshman spoke on the game after the matchup, sharing his reaction to the Sweet 16.
“I mean it feels great,” Flagg said. “It was a tough battle out there. Coach said it was going to be a war. It definitely was a war and they’re a really competitive team so it’s going to be a battle but it’s fun and onto the next.” Duke has now defeated Arizona, Baylor and Mount St. Mary’s.
Before taking down Caleb Love and the Wildcats, the Blue Devils dominated their first two opponents, defeating Mount St. Mary’s 93-49 and Baylor 89-66. Duke will face the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Elite 8, who are fresh off a victory over the BYU Cougars in the Sweet 16.
Throughout the NCAA Tournament, Alabama has defeated BYU, Saint Mary’s and Robert Morris.
The Blue Devils will play the Crimson Tide on Saturday at 8:49 p.m. ET
