Cooper Flagg’s GPA comes out after heartbreaking March Madness exit
Cooper Flagg and Duke fumbled a comfortable lead to crash out of March Madness in the Final Four against Houston, but the 18-year-old has impressed in the classroom as well as the court this year
Cooper Flagg boasts a 4.0 GPA as he weighs up entering the 2025 NBA Draft after Duke crashed out of March Madness at the Final Four.
On Saturday, Duke was just 30 seconds away from advancing to the National Championship as the Blue Devils held a 67-61 lead over Houston. However, Flagg and Co. experienced an extraordinary collapse.
In one of the most memorable upset wins in the Final Four in recent memory, Houston fought back from a 14-point deficit at one stage to fight back and secure a 70-67 win over Duke. The Blue Devils only made two buckets in the final 10:31 – both of which were scored by Flagg – as Houston rallied with an 11-1 run in the final 64 seconds of the game.
In the final 30 seconds alone, the Cougars rattled off a 9-0 run to advance as Houston chases its first-ever national championship. Meanwhile, Flagg was called for an over-the-back foul late that was questioned on social media, while his collegiate career ended with a missed potential game-winner for Duke.
Flagg ultimately did his best to keep his team in the game, scoring a game-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. However, his best wasn’t enough. But while Flagg was unable to get it done on the court, he has been achieving fine grades in the classroom.
Fans were impressed by his GPA, taking to social media to react. One fan commented: “That tells you everything you need to know! Not a Duke fan, but nothing but respect for Flagg.”
Damn now he more athletic AND smarter than me,” added another. One user was more skeptical, posting: “lol he’s a freshman so he got all A’s for 1 semester?”
While his freshman season didn’t end as he’d hoped, Flagg still enjoyed a tremendous 2024-25 season. Across the season, The 18-year-old averaged 18.9 points per game along with 7.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals, and became the fourth freshman in history to win the Wooden Award after Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Davis (2011), and Zion Williamson (2018).
Flagg was also named the ACC Player of the Year and won the Julius Erving Award, which is given by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the top men’s collegiate small forward. Now, the basketball world waits to see whether Flagg will make the expected decision to enter the 2025 NBA Draft.
