Dallas Cowboys Rule Out Signing Former Giants QB Daniel Jones.
The Dallas Cowboys have officially shut down speculation about signing former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones was released by the Giants on Friday after a tumultuous tenure as the team’s starting quarterback since 2019.
Just minutes after Jones became a free agent, his picture briefly appeared on the Cowboys’ website as an active roster member, sparking rumors about a potential signing. However, the page was quickly removed, and now the team’s vice president, Stephen Jones, has confirmed that the Cowboys are not interested in signing Jones.
When asked about the possibility of signing Jones, Stephen Jones replied, “No, I think we’re in good shape at our quarterback spot. We think Cooper Rush gives us the best chance to win right now.”
The Cowboys have been struggling this season, particularly after Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury. Cooper Rush has been starting in Prescott’s place, but the team has yet to win without their star quarterback. Trey Lance, a former first-round pick, is currently backing up Rush.
Jones, who led the Giants to just one playoff appearance during his time as starting quarterback, is looking for a fresh start. However, it appears that the Cowboys will not be his next destination.
Stephen Jones emphasized that the team is committed to Dak Prescott in the long term and wants to see how the season unfolds with Cooper Rush and Trey Lance at the helm.
