Things are not trending well for Dallas as they head to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Commanders tomorrow. Several more star players have now been ruled out of the game.
According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks, cornerback Trevon Diggs and guard Zack Martin won’t play against the Commanders due to a combination of injuries. Cooks was not expected to play as he was not activated from the reserve/injured-designated for return list, but Diggs and Martin are not going to even travel to Washington for the game.
It’s been an awful couple of days for the Cowboys on the injury front. In addition to losing Diggs, Martin and Cooks for this key game, they were forced to place starting quarterback Dak Prescott and special teams star Markquese Bell on injured reserve, ending their respective seasons.
Dallas are on the brink of playoff elimination heading into this game against the Commanders. At 3-7 on the season, their hopes are effectively dead unless they win out. But with so many players out, they’re not only at risk of losing to the Commanders, but at risk of losing to the New York Giants on Thanksgiving.
The Cowboys play two games over the next five days. If they get swept in those games, their season is for all intents and purposes over. There could be firings as early as Black Friday, let alone “Black Monday.”
That said, there’s a lot more football to play even if they win one or both of those games. Their final three weeks of the season will be against teams with very dynamic offenses: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.
What will the Cowboys’ final record be this season?
