Drake Maye sends 4-word message to New England Patriots NFL Draft star who promised to ‘fight and die’ to protect him
The franchise had the fourth overall pick and opted for the 21-year-old offensive lineman from LSU.
An emotional Campbell broke into tears after he was selected by the Patriots.
He immediately endeared himself to his new fans by saying on stage: “All the hard work, I have worked my entire life to be up here.
“To be able to get my name called by a franchise like New England. It means everything.”
Asked about the team’s quarterback, he replied: “I’m going to fight and die to protect him. I’ll get everything I have got.”
Maye took to social media to respond to Campbell’s remarks, tweeting: “Love this guy already.”
Patriots supporters are excited to see them both in action, with one saying: “Nobody will reach you now king.”
Another added: “Ordering my Campbell jersey asap! I love him.”
Campbell is said to have convinced head coach Mike Vrabel that he was the right choice after knocking him over during a training session.
ESPN reporter Pete Thamel said: “How would you like to punch your future boss on a job interview? Well, that’s one way that LSU star Will Campbell won over Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.
“Last Thursday, the top Patriots brass and Vrabel traveled to Baton Rouge to work out Campbell.
“Vrabel ran the workout and wore a blocking pad over his chest.
“In a drill to execute a drive block, sources said that Campbell hit Vrabel square in the chest and knocked Vrabel back on his derriere.
Vrabel loved it and had a big smile on his face as he gathered himself and got up.”
