In a thrilling development for Alabama football, Baltimore’s St. Frances five-star safety Jireh Edwards has announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide. Edwards, the nation’s No. 2 safety and No. 19 prospect overall, chose Alabama over top programs like Auburn, Georgia, Oregon and Texas A&M.
Edwards, a 6-foot-1.5, 205-pound phenom, was drawn to Alabama’s winning culture, saying, “Just the culture… Them producing the guys they produced already and seeing them do so well in the league.” He praised Coach Kalen DeBoer, describing him as a “real winning coach” who “wants to win badly.” Edwards felt an instant connection with DeBoer and the coaching staff, including Maurice Linguist and Jason Jones.
The recruitment process was intense, but Edwards ultimately chose Alabama due to the program’s family-oriented approach. “The way they brought my family in with open arms. They love my family. I feel that’s perfect,” he said. Edwards was also impressed by the team’s warm welcome, noting that Alabama “did stuff other schools didn’t do.” As a lifelong Alabama fan, Edwards couldn’t resist the opportunity to be part of the program’s storied history and success. “I grew up being a Bama fan, watching Bama play… Me having an opportunity to be part of that, you can’t go past,” he said. “That’s a dream come true. A super dream come true.”
Edwards becomes Alabama’s 19th commit in the 2026 cycle, bolstering a class ranked No. 6 nationally. With his talent and dedication, the Crimson Tide is poised for continued success. Edwards is excited to make an impact, saying, “I know I have an opportunity to play as a true freshman and I’m not taking that for granted. I just want to go out and ball.”
The addition of Edwards is a significant boost to Alabama’s recruiting efforts, and fans are eagerly anticipating his contributions to the team.
