The Liverpool captain played 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield, with Mikel Arteta remaining in the Christmas squad. The Reds are in second place but could leapfrog their rivals with a win on Saturday (December 23).It was a close contest between the two groups, but as the match progressed, Van Dijk’s frustration almost got the better of him.

Netherlands captain Chris Kavanagh (32) fouled Jesus midway through the second half and was said to be angry at the decision. Van Dijk’s reaction was caught on camera, where he asked the referee if he had been drinking and expressed his desire to drink.

A clip of Van Dijk’s reaction immediately went viral on social media. A X user asked: “Did Van Dyke ask the referee if he had been drinking?” wrote. Another explained: “Van Dijk asked the referee what he was drinking and he won’t be booked anyway.”
