James has labelled it a “two-horse race,” despite Arsenal being top of the table with eight games to go. Even taking into account the Gunners’ phenomenal run of form since their mid-season break, the ex-England goalkeeper doesn’t believe that Mikel Arteta’s side are “good enough” to become league champions for the first time since since 2004, Arsenal’s famous Invincibles campaign.

James, speaking before City and Arsenal’s drab 0-0 draw last Sunday which gave Liverpool – who have nine games left to play – the upper hand, continued: “What we’ve seen from Liverpool I think has surprised everyone.

“I wasn’t surprised up until a couple of weeks ago with where they were – because I thought there was a nice balance to them and there still is – the surprise has been in the last couple of games. Granted, they’ve been cup games where young players have come in, shown no fear and more importantly, played like they’ve been involved for a long while.
