Former Arnold standout Alex Steen transfers to Florida State basketball
One of Bay County’s best hoops stars is coming back home.
Former Arnold basketball player Alex Steen has announced he will transfer to play at Florida State University in 2025 after spending the last seasons at Florida Southern, where he averaged 17.9 points and 10.6 rebounds as a junior.
“It is exciting be back up and near where I call home and a big piece was coach (Luke) Loucks because with him the sky is the limit as far as development and he will definitely take my game to the next level,” Steen said.
Steen chose the Seminoles over the likes of Kentucky, Louisville, Alabama and others.
The junior has earned numerous accolades during his time with the Mocs, surpassing 1,000 career points and 700 rebounds. The standout big man was also a two-time Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
“I always had the midset of, ‘I can do better, I can be better today than I was yesterday and I did that by getting in extra shots whether that was before or after practice,” Steen said.
Not long ago, Steen was making a major impact in Bay County — particularly in 2022, when he averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds and 2 blocks per game as a senior. He earned First Team All-County and Third Team All-State honors.
Florida State wrapped up the season with a 17-15 record and missed out on an NCAA tournament bid. Steen has typically walked the line in the Florida-Florida State rivalry, but now that he’s officially a Seminole, it’s clear where his loyalty lies.
“I was watching the national championship game with friends and seeing (Florida) win made me think about how much I hate them now,” Steen said.
