Former Liverpool player blasted as Premier League’s worst signing – ‘Call me crazy’.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has blasted former Reds winger Raheem Sterling as the worst signing in the Premier League this season with the forward on loan at Arsenal for the campaign.

Sterling wasn’t part of Chelsea’s plans for this year having made a limited impact at Stamford Bridge, leading to Mikel Arteta spotting an opportunity. So far, though, the 29-year-old has only played 123 league minutes and his only goal contributions (one goal and one assist) have come in the Carabao Cup.

What’s he done? He’s done zero!” Nicol told ESPN. “At the very least come on and give [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Bukayo] Saka a break and push the rest of the players to be better.

All the reasons he was bought, use your experience, push the other two to be better, give them competition, and then when you do get a chance, make it count. He’s done nothing! Call me crazy, but if you sign someone and they do nothing, that is not good.”

Arsenal is currently nine points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table with 11 matches having been played. The Gunners face Nottingham Forest this weekend while the Reds are away at Southampton.

Liverpool.com says: Sterling has not worked out for Arsenal at all yet and it isn’t a huge shock. He hasn’t played for a while now. Arsenal is lagging behind in the standings, and even though there is plenty of time for that to change, its lack of attacking firepower is noticeable compared to Liverpool and Manchester City.

There are fewer goals in the Arsenal roster than their title rivals, and that ultimately could be costly given the fine margins at the top. It certainly looks that way so far. Saka and Martinelli are not the most prolific wingers and Kai Havertz’s numbers are always going to be limited to a certain extent. Leandro Trossard, meanwhile, has seen his form drop off compared to last year.
