Asante Samuel had time for Deion Sanders this past week. The former All-Pro cornerback called out the GOAT for a teaching technique most all players for the position use. Coach Prime tried to explain how the T-step move was “stupid” during an interview with the NFL Network’s live coverage at Big 12 Media Day.
Many people laughed it off as Sanders showcased his ability to execute the move. But Samuel called his comment “foolishness” because it’s “the best technique to get to the football” for a defensive back. The two traded barbs before it died down a day after the interview. .Sanders replied to Samuel with praise for former Florida State defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews, who initially molded ‘Prime Time’ before his illustrious NFL career. Samuel then gave props to Gene Chizik for his effort.
“Ain’t know shots on my end brother just competitive as they come, Samuel told Sanders. “I talk expletive if it offends you then… coach Gene Chizik taught us how to T-Step” I’m just trying to compare film. You can run from the debate, I will still be here talking my expletive.”
The T-step maneuver allows the cornerback to get a break on the ball while having a step on the receiver in coverage. Say what you want, but it works for many defensive backs. Sanders tried to let the argument die and it was held up by Samuel with the hits coming one after another. Neither one is right about their viewpoints, making for a spirited debate.
Sanders was on hand for Big 12 Pro Day outside of Dallas this past week. His son, Shedeur, opted not to throw at the event and is currently projected at a top ten pick in next month’s NFL Draft.
