Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has attempted to explain why Darwin Nunes was not sent off for Liverpool against Manchester United.
Michael Oliver was sent off for angering the Portuguese defender, while Diogo Dalot was sent off for Manchester United after Erik ten Hag complained to the fourth official.
The decision was ridiculous, especially after Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez failed to produce any results in the first half.
Jonny Evans was booked for a heavy tackle before shouting at Oliver, but perhaps unsurprisingly the Uruguayan was not given a second yellow card. Gallagher on Nunez
On Sky Sports News Ref Watch, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher gave his verdict on why the former SL Benfica forward was sent off.Asked why Nunes was ejected, Gallagher said, “It’s a very difficult decision for the referee because it’s not an exact science.”
“No matter where I jump, they tell me I’m wrong.”I think there is no choice in the current situation (with Dalot). The first warning was about a disagreement about a throw and the second was about the result.
“I understand what people think about (Nunaz), but in the end the referee decided not to send him off.”It was a poor attempt by the former referee to explain why the Uruguayan was sent off, but Dalot was sent off for a lesser foul than Nunes.
United must appeal
Some of the decisions that have hurt the Red Devils this season are ridiculous and make you wonder if Ten Hag should even be mentioned.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has challenged refereeing decisions before and it worked. Mikel Arteta did the same.Ten Haag must do something similar.
It’s not the best thing you can do, but the truth is that the Red Devils won’t make any decisions in their favour. Something must be done.
