Latest Liverpool news and gossip as Jurgen Klopp prepares the Reds to face Burnley in the Premier League clash at Anfield today and will have plenty of options at his disposal
Liverpool are busy gearing up for their return to Premier League action today against Burnley.
The Reds resume their top-flight campaign looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Arsenal. That loss leaves Liverpool just two points clear of the Gunners and Manchester City at the top of the table.
Man City have a game in hand over Liverpool, which comes against Brentford later this month. Pep Guardiola’s team face Everton in the early kick-off, meaning the Reds could start this afternoon’s game against Burnley in second place should City get all three points.
Jurgen Klopp will be looking to guide his team back to winning ways with victory over Burnley this afternoon. The reverse fixture at Turf Moor ended in a 2-0 victory at Turf Moor on Boxing Day with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota on the score sheet.
Klopp will be forced to deal with several injury concerns with his squad. The most recent issue centres around Thiago Alcantara, who is expected to be on the sidelines for the foreseeable after sustaining a hamstring injury during his cameo against Arsenal.
Mohamed Salah has been busy recovering from an injury he sustained while on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. Today’s game is likely to be too soon for the forward to return to action, but there may be hope of Salah featuring against Brentford next Saturday.
Wataru Endo is expected to return to the squad, though, following his involvement with Japan at the Asian Cup. Endo has missed seven Liverpool matches while on international duty but is expected to be in contention to feature against Burnley this afternoon.
