Green Bay Packers Sign Foreign Kicker Amid Brandon McManus Uncertainty in 2025

The Green Bay Packers have made a significant move in the kicking department, signing Alex Hale, a foreign kicker from Australia, amid uncertainty surrounding Brandon McManus’ future with the team ¹. McManus, who was signed by the Packers in 2024, had a stellar season, making 95.2% of his field goals and 100% of his extra points. However, with his contract set to expire, the Packers are exploring other options.

Hale, who played college football at Oklahoma State, was signed to a futures contract, ensuring he’ll be part of the Packers’ 90-man roster until the team trims it to 53 players ¹. As part of the International Player Pathway, Hale spent the 2024 NFL season on the Packers’ practice squad, where he gained valuable experience and exposure.

The Packers’ decision to sign Hale may indicate that they’re preparing for life without McManus. While McManus’ performance in 2024 was impressive, the team may not be willing to commit to him long-term, especially considering his age and potential salary demands.

It’s worth noting that the Packers have struggled to find consistency at the kicker position since Mason Crosby’s departure. They’ve tried several kickers, including Anders Carlson and Brayden Narveson, but none have been able to fill the void left by Crosby.

Hale’s signing may provide some stability at the position, but it’s unclear whether he’ll be the team’s primary kicker in 2025. The Packers may still explore other options in free agency or the draft, and McManus could potentially return to the team if negotiations go smoothly.
